Press Release Body = IRVINE, Calif.--May 27, 2005--Retired publisher, Jim Lyons,
died on May 26 in Laguna Niguel, Calif., of stomach cancer complications. He worked
for Freedom Communications for 42 years, serving in various newspaper advertising
and publishing roles.
[Image:5272005_24931_0.png]Lyons began his career with Freedom as an intern in 1948.
After graduating from Stanford University in 1955, he was hired to work in the ad
department of The Orange County Register. In the mid-1960s, he served as Advertising
Manager of The Anaheim Bulletin, in Anaheim, Calif.
He was also a second-generation associate of Freedom Communications, whose father,
Jim Lyons, Sr., worked for more than 60 years at the company. Jim Lyons, Sr. worked
for Founder R.C. Hoiles and his son, Clarence Hoiles, in the late 1920s.
Lyons also served as publisher of former Freedom newspaper, the Turlock Journal, in
Turlock, Calif. He retired as publisher of The Porterville Recorder, Porterville,
Calif., in 1997.
"We'll miss Jim," said Vice President of Corporate Affairs, Dick Wallace, who also
supervised Lyons at The Anaheim Bulletin. "Jim's commitment and contributions to the
company, during his four decades at Freedom, helped build the foundation for the
success we enjoy today. Our prayers are with his family."
Memorial services are pending at Fairhaven Memorial Park and Mortuary, Santa Ana,
Calif., 714-633-1442.
