“There is something immensely satisfying about winning People’s Choice awards. We build products for users, and when they find it good, we know we did our job,” he
says, leaning forward in his chair as he makes his point. “eScan Virus Control Edition has what one would call ‘the punch’,” he says, “because it combines the user’s need for Anti-virus and Content Security. As an Anti-virus product we had a vision for it - to combine strong Spam control with proven Anti-virus capabilities. We told ourselves that if we could do it, we would have a strong product, and we did. We’ll build it up even more, watch out for it then,” he completes, smiling. If confidence could blow hard like a strong wind, Govind Rammurthy could have pushed back a rain cloud or two hanging over MIDC in Marol, Andheri, where MicroWorld Technologies has based its development center in Mumbai.

eScan Virus Control Edition is a desktop Anti-Virus and Content Security software for Windows based systems. It uses MicroWorld's Winsock Layer (MWL) Technology to
block security threats at the Internet Gateway itself, way before they enter your system. Its e-mail scanning engine combines with MWL to use real time scanning to
check for virus threats and restricted content in e-mails, and attachments among other things, to ensure that your system is free of viruses, other malicious
programs, and Spam/junk e-mails(s).

David Bragg, President, MSD2D, is generous with his praise for the product that people voted as the best Anti-Virus product in the Security category. “This speaks a great deal of your company and your product! To a question why he calls it Virus Control as that would imply that the product merely ‘controls’ virus threats rather than eliminate it, Rammurthy has an unique
take on it, and it’s a candid one. “There is nothing like complete security. If anyone’s telling you that then they are lying,” he says, pausing to let the import of his words sink in.

“We can only react to virus threats after they occur and that takes time,” he continues. “That’s when users face the risk of virus infection. How good we are with
reducing this time period (also known as the open window period) will determine how good our product is. And, to ‘foresee’ virus threats, we use heuristics to catch any virus like behaviour a program might exhibit, taking it out immediately if it does. This is because we cannot always rely on existing virus signatures. Moreover it
helps us narrow the window period to negligible. The day we can shut this window tight, and not allow any threat to sneak in, we’ll have found our elixir of life,” he chuckles. It’s late in the evening.

Behind him the rain batters the tightly shut window. Not a drop gets in. Someday maybe the other window too.
