If you are
a member of a non-profit organization, which most soccer clubs are,
you are entitled to view documents pertinent to the club.
Some of these
are:
IRS - 1023
- Non-profit application
IRS - 990 - Yearly financial report to IRS
Club Bylaws - What does the Club believe in?
Club Checking Account - Where is your money going?
Coaching Contracts - What does your coach make?
Board Meeting Minutes - What is happening with the Club?
These documents
can be requested in person (club has three days to get information
to you) or in writing (club has 30 days to get information to you)(the
Club can charge for the copying expense of these documents). If
a Club fails to provide you with the information you requested without
a reasonable explanation, you have the option of reporting them
to the Internal Revenue Service. As a paying member of a Club you
become an owner and therefore are entitled to the same information
on the Club that a shareholder of a company would expect to receive
