Press Release Summary = Visual SQL query builder component suite for Borland Delphi
and C++ Builder
Press Release Body = The new component for Delphi and C++ Builder gives
end-users the ability to build complex SQL queries visually.
Yekaterinburg, Russia (September 26, 2005)– Active Database Software, a
company that offers solutions for professional database developers, announced today
the release of the new visual query builder component suite for Borland Delphi and
C++ Builder that allows your end-users to build complex SQL queries via the
intuitive visual interface. It differs from other query builders by its powerful SQL
parser that correctly handles SQL queries containing multiple nested joins and other
fine points of SQL syntax. Another feature is the powerful graphical engine that
allows you to build queries involving unions, nested joins and subqueries.
MS-Access style and SQL Server style query building visual interface.
The interface of Active Query Builder for Delphi is similar to either MS-Access or
SQL Server visual query construction interface, but is much more powerful compared
to other similar components. The unique features of Active Query Builder for Delphi
such as the ability to build queries with unions and subqueries make it the best
solution for professional developers.
Integration with Delphi or C++ Builder applications is achieved by setting a
few properties or writing a few lines of code.
The component may be integrated into a Delphi or C++ Builder application with just a
few lines of code. Unlike many other query building solutions for Delphi, Active
Query Builder does not force the programmer to use the embedded data grid, SQL
editor or anything else. Instead, it allows you to integrate any accompanying
functionality into your application as quickly and easily as possible.
Sophisticated SQL parser will translate any valid SQL statement into its visual
representation.
Active Query Builder gives you full control over the SQL query - you can easily
navigate it using the internal query builder objects tree that represents all parts
of the SQL query. Also you can edit existing queries or create new SQL queries using
these objects in run-time.
Full line of database connectivity Delphi components and generic event-driven
driver.
We are planning to create metadata providers for all popular database connectivity
components but, of course, we cannot cover them all. Thus we created the generic
event-driven metadata provider. You can use it to provide metadata information from
any data source. It's quite simple and has just a few events to implement. Using the
generic event-driven metadata provider you can work disconnected providing all
necessary metadata information by yourself.
Text, RTF and HTML export filters.
Using the Active Query Builder output filters you can transform SQL code into the
format you need, customized the way you like it. There are a lot of properties that
can be used to customize the resulting SQL query representation, specifying when to
move to the next line, to increase the indent, to wrap a line.
SQL Server, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Interbase/Firebird, and ANSI-92 SQL dialects
support.
- Microsoft SQL Server. Active Query Builder supports various Transact SQL
extensions, such as the TOP clause that limits the number of rows, table and join
hints used by the query optimizer, the COMPUTE BY clause to generate summary.
- SQL Server 2005 support: the WITH clause to specify a temporary named result set
(CTE), new types of query combinations, except UNION, EXCEPT and INTERSECT.
- PostgreSQL. Active Query Builder supports expressions with dollar-quoted strings,
user defined data types, standard and user defined operators.
- MySQL. Active Query Builder supports all MySQL extensions, such as the Limit
clause that limits the number of rows, the SELECT INTO OUTFILE/DUMPFILE forms, query
options, locking definitions, subqueries for MySQL server version starting from 4.1.
Oracle, DB2, Informix, Sybase and even more dialects will be implemented next month.
Active Query Builder is a special component.
It wasn’t created for some internal needs, it was made to meet customer needs. This
is a component that was made by a team of enthusiast programmers to express their
vision of the visual query building. All your comments and suggestions will be taken
into consideration because we really want to make it the best tool possible.
Pricing and Availability
Active Query Builder Standard Edition has an estimated price of US$249 per license
(with source included) or US$149 per license (without source included). There is
also a freeware edition which is fully functional, but supports only the ANSI-92 SQL
dialect. The information about other licensing options, as well as further details
on pricing, upgrade and support policies, is available online at
