With the upcoming holiday season, Support A Soldier is needing funding to send care packages for deployed soldiers during the holiday season when they are needed the most.

Press Release Body = (FORT HOOD, TX) – When Vavette Blevins was deployed with the 4th Infantry Division to Iraq in 2003, she saw firsthand what it was like when soldiers went for days, weeks and months without letters or packages.

No longer an active-duty soldier, Blevins has found a new mission: this time around she’s going to try to make sure no soldiers feels forgotten. Almost two years later, Blevins’ founded Support A Soldier (www.SupportASoldier.org).

Launching the Support A Soldier website in August 2005, Blevins’ quickly found a close circle of family and friends willing to donate to Fort Hood’s Soldiers deployed around the world. Within the week Support A Soldier had over 150 Soldiers added to their care package list and the list continues to grow as many of Fort Hood’s Soldiers are deploying once again to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Support A Soldier is driven by a mission to “lift the spirits and morale of Fort Hood soldiers serving overseas with letters, cards and care packages.” By working directly with platoon sergeants to track down the men and women who would benefit most from the support, Support A Soldier hopes to provide care packages and letters
to deployed soldiers who might not otherwise receive them due to lack of financial means or family resources.

To prepare for ongoing deployments and the upcoming holiday season, Support A Soldier needs funding support to send holiday care packages to thousands of soldiers deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. "Being away from home is difficult, but being away from home during the holidays is even worse” says Blevins. We would like to be able
to bring make each soldier feel they are cared for, especially during the holiday season when it is needed the most.
