Press Release Body = Palo Alto, Calif. — November 16, 2005 — Faced with growing terror threats and the continuous influx of illegal immigrants, the U.S. Government has been compelled to take a closer look at the security measures utilized to safeguard its borders. Deploying enough people to effectively control the influx of illegal immigrants is almost impossible, yet the Government is relying on the continuing advancements in technology to make effective border control more obtainable.

While there have been tremendous improvements in the capabilities of cameras and sensor equipment, massive strides in IT infrastructure is largely at the forefront of the Government’s plans to incorporate a truly effective border security regime.

New analysis from Frost & Sullivan (www.defense.frost.com), U.S. Federal Border Security Markets, reveals that revenue in this market totaled $5.99 billion in 2004 and can reach $8.10 billion in 2011.

However, considering that the United States has over 6,500 miles of land borders, the task of securing them is rather difficult and expensive. Cost over-runs and defective equipment plagued the border security’s pervious program (Integrated Surveillance Intelligence System (ISIS)). its replacement, the American Shield
Initiative (ASI) aims to cover the entire border and will undoubtedly be more difficult to manage.

"Government estimates put the total cost of ASI around $2.5 billion, which is completely unrealistic," notes Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Mathew A. Farr."There exists a disconnect between what the Government envisions and what it wants to fund, for example, the US-VISIT program, which will keep track of who enters and
leaves the legal ports of entry, is going to exceed $10 billion."

Apart from ASI and US-VISIT, an important program undertaken by the federal government toward border protection is the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE). Replacing the current U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) import system and the Automated Commercial System (ACS), ACE is designed to consolidate and automate border processing to significantly enhance border security and foster economic security through lawful international travel and trade.

Also, other similar programs that address this growing concern include the Container Security Initiative (CSI), Secure Electronic Network for Travelers' Rapid Inspection (SENTRI), Homeland Security Data Network (HSDN), Non-Intrusive Inspection (NII), and Automated Biometric Identification System Integrated Automated Fingerprint
Identification System (IDENT/IAFIS).

Amidst the growing focus on border security, information technology represents the single largest area of growth within border security markets. The amount of money spent on information technology will be substantially larger in other products and technologies. While detection equipment is the second fastest area of growth after
information technology, US-VISIT represents the single largest program for biometrics in border security.

Also, the ASI represents a large upcoming market for all types of surveillance equipment and sensors. This program will require in excess of 3,000 cameras to cover just 50 percent of the borders and these cameras, however, must have intelligent designs, infrared, night-vision, facial recognition and motion detection.

"Overall, the products that are benefiting from increased border security are surveillance equipment, biometrics, information technology, air assets, sensors, and detection equipment," says Farr.
