Press Release Summary = The Delphian School is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a series of events held through June 2006.
Press Release Body = This is a historic time for Yamhill County in Oregon for at least two reasons: 1) the city of Sheridan celebrated its 125th anniversary as a thriving community, and 2) The Delphian School in Sheridan is celebrating its 30th anniversary as an independent school and an active member of the greater Yamhill County community.
Over the last 30 years The Delphian School has grown from a modest staff and faculty and about 60 students to a network of nine schools in five states (Oregon, California, Illinois, Florida and Massachusetts), with a total student body of more than 1000 students. The Sheridan campus services 250 boarding and day students both during the summer and the academic year. American students come from as nearby as Sheridan, Willamina and McMinnville, and as far away as Chicago, New York and Boston. International students come from more than a dozen countries, including Mexico, China, Korea, Japan, Austria and Turkey.
The backbone of The Delphian School's educational philosophy is Study Technology developed by American author and educator, L. Ron Hubbard. These educational tools Mr. Hubbard developed are practical methods of teaching and learning that help teachers to be more effective as educators and children to become more effective and independent as students.
Over the years, students from the Delphian School have been involved in a variety of community services in the county. Some of their local activities include street cleaning in Sheridan and McMinnville; working with Habitat for the Humanities; Christmas caroling on 3rd Street; tutoring in McMinnville and Sheridan elementary and middle school afternoon programs; and mentoring in the Start Making a Reader Today (SMART) program at Willamina Elementary School.
"We have been helping out in the community for many years, and it is very important to us," said Bruce Wiggins, Public Affairs Director at The Delphian School. "We feel that this kind of activity helps to build a sense of civic pride. The students love it, and it has become a core element of our program."
The Delphian School is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school offering college preparatory, English-as-a-Second-Language and summer programs for elementary through high school students. The Delphian School is licensed to use Applied Scholastics(TM) educational services.
