Leading Homeland Security Experts & Analyst Provide Insights on Global Security Issues and Markets for Biometrics, RFID, and Detection Technology
POINT ROBERTS, Wash., March 27th, 2006 - www.HomelandDefenseStocks.com (HDS) a global investor and industry news portal for the homeland defense and security sector, presents an online roundtable discussion with homeland security industry experts, Brian Ruttenbur, Equity Research Analyst with Morgan Keegan & Co. Inc covering Homeland Security Technology, Lou Kelly, President & CEO of The Security Network and Chairman for the Center for Commercialization of Advanced Technologies (CCAT), and Jack Mallon, Founder and Senior Managing Director of Mallon Associates, an investment bank focused on the security industry. Global security issues and opportunities are discussed covering issues of global protectionism, border and port security, industry consolidation, technology and the continued evolution of the security and defense market.
Homeland security issues have moved into an intensified spotlight as the nation's political leaders have debated the ramifications surrounding the Dubai Port deal and the turn of events that have taken place as a result of political pressure. While opinions on this subject vary, many acknowledge the need for the increased focus on border and port security. As Lou Kelly describes, "The Dubai Ports deal debate did cause the nation to focus on port security more so than they have been. Many of us believe that the sea ports have not received the attention that they need and therefore some good has come from this situation in getting us to focus on this area."
Border and port security technology that continues to receive industry attention include biometrics and RFID technology. Brian Ruttenbur explains, "I expect in the next year to two years there's going to be a dramatic increase specifically in biometrics for IDs, and travel documents. I see these biometric travel documents as a major event. I also see most of these biometrics being RFID enabled. RF is a questionable technology for travel documents in terms of how secure it is, but I see that the U.S. and most of Western Europe will push in this direction."
Technology driven sectors continue to experience growth according to Jack Mallon who states, "RFID and asset tracking is an area that lends itself to continued growth and continued application of this technology to solve not only security products and problems, but also other managerial issues. The detection sector of security also offers opportunity for investors as new technology continues to emerge." Mr. Mallon also indicated network security and the computer security sector as additional areas of growth.
