The engineering industry used to be the leader in the Czech Republic for decades. Recently, its close relative - the automobile industry - got quickly to the top of exports. Besides cars and their spare parts, where the Czech Republic is a source of manpower rather than a creative element, the export of top technologies and unique ideas is becoming more and more successful. This is demonstrated by the export line of the Czech company 2N TELEKOMUNIKACE, Prague, which has exported telecommunication equipment worth CZK 1 billion since 1999. However, it is the ambition of 2N to make this amount its annual sales within three years.
One or ten billion are unimportant figures absolutely because they may represent standard sales in some fields and an above-standard achievement in others. What deserves attention is the history of the rise of this figure and some details. The first detail is that 2N is a purely Czech business, which celebrated its 15th anniversary in February this year. Like many other companies, 2N started with a very low capital stock in 1991. Unlike other companies, however, they did not confine themselves to the import of foreign products but started developing home private branch exchanges immediately. A lot of successful products familiar to almost everybody has come into being in 2N during its fifteen-year long existence. This is evidenced by over 20 thousand PBXs sold to companies or the first least-cost mobile calling through GSM gateways where a 2N product cuts the call cost per minute to CZK 2.50 from CZK 10. The achievements also include a door communicator for tens of thousands of office buildings. Such success is remarkable. 2N was ranked as one of the 100 Best Czech Companies in 1997 for the first time and exhibited its products at the CeBit international trade fair in 2000, which exhibition was the first step towards 2N\'s successful export programme. In 2005, 2N was honoured with the visit of the President of the Czech Republic, Mr. Václav Klaus, and his wife during their excursion through Prague 12.
The 2N brand gains ground throughout Europe and the rest of the world, especially due to successful least-cost GSM applications, i.e. products that were placed on the Czech market as early as 1997. The present export programme was initiated by the first participation of 2N in the CeBIT trade fair in Hannover in 2000, where 2N introduced a number of projects to experts from all the world. The participation in the trade fair was a step in the right direction. Petr Černousek, who has determined 2N\'s export strategy from the very beginning, comments on this: \"In addition to language problems, we had to cope with a new approach to solving requirements and problems. Our readiness to meet clients\' needs and respond promptly to innovations brought 2N not only the first export jobs but also long-time partners in many European countries\". Once the product line had been stabilised, new interesting markets were addressed, including North and South America and Australia. Meanwhile, the 2N developers brought the 2N telecommunication equipment to the top and, besides winning tenders of providers and state organisations, 2N won prestigious awards at international trade fairs, e.g. at CommsChannelExpo, England, and in Italy. At present, 2N projects further expansion to foreign markets. 2N focuses not only on exports but also on innovations for Czech clients and, together with such foreign giants as Alcatel and Siemens, is one of the leading suppliers of telecommunication systems in the Czech Republic. In this respect, the company aspires at further growth - since Petr Černousek was appointed Sales Director in January 2005, the annual home sales have grown by another 8%. In addition to extending its world map and having enthusiasm for success, 2N is able to offer experience and capacity to enforce solutions. Moreover, we maintain and promote development of own products, especially PBX and GSM technologies. With the return on investment in mind, 2N intends to triple its annual turnover within three years in order to achieve the annual sales of 1 billion.
