Press Release Body = After the great success of Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) in India, it is now the KPO turn to make its presence felt. BPO success in India is encouraging overseas companies eyeing Indian market for outsourcing their high-tech knowledge based jobs. Operational cost saving, pool of talented workforce, infrastructure improvement and favorable government policies are the major factors, which are responsible for the Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO) in India.
However, recent Indian government\'s proposal to increase reservation for the backward classes and underprivileged people in the nation\'s elite educational institutions as well as private sector has been the target of strong criticism especially from hi-tech and highly specialized industries and KPO (Knowledge Process Outsourcing) is one of them.
Top heads are of the different opinion instead. They prefer new guidelines to be introduced based on U.S. practices. Imposing job quotas might hamper the quality in output. Hence, BPO/KPO industry prefers to let industry recruit people, including those belong to backward classes, on merit to help it perform on international standards.
\"Anyone who meets norms of international standards is welcome to join the industry, irrespective of his class, creed etc\", says a director of Bangalore based KPO. \"There is already a dearth of required qualified manpower and additional condition for job quota will worsen the condition\", he added.
\"We are not against hiring people from the backward classes or deprived communities, however, we should be given liberty to hire candidates with required qualification and skills,\" he said further.
The Director of the Bangalore based KPO gave alternative suggestion that \"we do intend for hiring underprivileged people but it should not be made mandatory for us. If we do not find suitable person then we should select other people who are found more suitable for the job.\"
\"BPO/KPO Industry does not ask candidates of what cast they belong to even during the interviews. There are many people from SC/ST and other backward classes are presently working but purely on merit,\" disclosed another Director of Mumbai-based KPO.
Whatever these top notched industry players and Indian government say, as long as quality on results is not compromised, Indian KPOs will have great future.
