Press Release Body = The Symbian Smartphone Show, London, October 19, 2006. -- Synchronica plc, an international provider of robust mobile synchronization and device management solutions, today announces that it has expanded the security functions of Mobile Manager to support Symbian smartphones. The new release of Mobile Manager enables the broadest number of smartphone users to benefit from Synchronica\'s over-the-air (OTA) security management, including wipe and lock; and the hugely popular \'Scream\' feature. The software can be used by businesses as a self-care facility to manage a fleet of smartphones, by service providers, or by individual smartphone owners.
With Mobile Manager, businesses or service providers can immediately secure lost or stolen devices remotely, from Mobile Manager\'s web-based application. The device can be wiped and locked over-the-air, preventing sensitive corporate or personal data stored on the device from being accessed by unauthorised users. Also available with the software release is the ability to augment the wipe and lock feature with an optional screaming sound sent OTA to the device as a sound file.
David Wood, EVP Research, at Symbian commented: \"OTA is becoming increasingly important in the enterprise world where companies are arming their employees with smartphones which often contain confidential data including corporate email, Word and Excel documents and remote access to corporate database information. Synchronica\'s solution provides a simple and effective way to protect corporate data and the personal privacy of smartphone owners.\"
Carsten Brinkschulte, CEO of Synchronica added: \"The partnership with Symbian is a strategic move for Synchronica to further increase the reach of Mobile Manager in the smartphone market. Symbian has a great reputation as leaders in this space, with over 70 % share of the smartphone market, and 82 million smartphones shipped to date.\"
Other device management solutions require businesses to install and maintain expensive and complex software solutions behind the corporate firewall and are often overcomplicated and not designed for IT administrators. By contrast, Synchronica\'s web-based Mobile Manager has been developed specifically to be offered by mobile operators and service providers using the Software as a Service (SaaS) model. This model also suits smaller companies which may choose to opt for a self-care device management solution hosted by specialist service providers. With this model, also now available on Symbian OS, companies can access their own web portal but don\'t have any large up-front investment costs. Larger companies can also install Mobile Manager behind the corporate firewall and integrate it with their IT infrastructure.
Mobile Manager\'s security features for Symbian smartphones are available immediately. Synchronica sells directly as well as through partners to larger companies and to service providers such as mobile operators intending to offer Mobile Manager to their subscribers. SME\'s can opt to purchase a fully or part-hosted OTA device management service from service providers, rather than buying the software outright.
