Press Release Summary = Free screen saver from Tech-Pro.net can shut down or hibernate unsttended Windows PCs to save on energy bills and reduce carbon emissions.
Press Release Body = Cockermouth, Cumbria, UK - February 9 2007. Tech-Pro Limited announces the release of a free screen saver for Windows. Tech-Pro GreenSaver is a screen saver that can shut down or hibernate a Windows PC if it is left unattended for more than a predefined period. It can reduce energy consumption and save money by shutting down computers that the users forget to switch off.
Tech-Pro director Julian Moss says: \"I was walking through a city at night recently, and was surprised to see computers running screen savers in darkened offices. I thought: what a waste of energy and money! It occurred to me that a screen saver could have a built-in timer that could shut down the computer after it had run for a certain time, so we developed Tech-Pro GreenSaver to do just that.\"
A typical PC uses about 300 watts of power while running compared to just 3 watts while shut down or in hibernation. Shutting the computer down when not in use can therefore result in a considerable energy- and cost-saving, and help to reduce carbon emissions.
GreenSaver has a static display to minimize processor usage and power consumption whilst it is running. Tech-Pro found that an animated display caused many computers to burn more power than a static one. \"Running a conventional animated screen saver that no-one looks at most of the time really is a waste of money\" says Moss. \"In these environmentally conscious times we really need to save energy where we can. Not using an animated screen saver, and turning off computers that aren\'t being used, are two easy ways to cut energy costs and reduce our carbon footprint at minimal personal inconvenience.\"
