Press Release Body = On a sunny day like so many experienced in North East Victoria, Australia, the townsfolk of Benalla were introduced to a coffee-guzzling, croissant-munching, hug-giving (ála Juan Mann), shoplifting creature by the name of Anna, proudly displaying a "Will Drop Pants 4 Plane Ticket" sign in a cheeky attempt to find her way back to the très chic south of France.
So... who is Anna? Why does she do that with those underpants? Could this bizarre creature possibly be a real person?
"Oh, she's real, alright," says rock songwriter/musician turned music video director, Lisa Maxwell, with a little more than a hint of mystery. As it happens, Anna is the latest single from Lisa Maxwell's debut album, Select Vacancy, the clip also marking her directing debut. Up-and-coming Benalla teen rocker Jasmine Billingsley stars in the lead role.
The muse for the track and peculiar clip was "...someone once who visited my hometown Benalla for a few months and became very unpopular with the locals," Lisa carefully revealed in an interview with music website Access All Areas in 2005, and insists that a frightening degree of truth lies behind "Anna's" adventures captured in the music video:
"Then again, fact is stranger than fiction!"
Anna has so far received a big response on Lisa's official website and networking websites MySpace and YouTube, where it is currently online for viewing. The clip is released to Australian television this week.
Candid behind-the-scenes footage and outtakes from the video shoot will be released later this year as part of Lisa's new iTunes video podcast, which is being produced in conjunction with Melbourne-based podcasters Cracked Media, who are behind Australia's first all-girl indie music podcast, the ever-popular The Bleeding Edge.
Select Vacancy (featuring the track Anna) is out now through Essential Music Australia/Green Media/MGM Distribution and is available on Apple iTunes and all good music retailers.
