Press Release Summary = Enterprise Strategy Group, an IT analyst firm, predicts the staled PC security market is about to experience a transformation as the security needs of customers are fast changing.
Press Release Body = Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG) conducted a survey on 206 IT security professionals and compiled the results in a report, Desktop Security at the Crossroads. The survey found that respondents see very little or no distinction in anti-virus, anti-spam, or firewall solutions. The research further points that users are developing interest in more than simple 'one-size-fits-all' security.
ESG says the 'one-size-fits-all' desktop security has become obsolete now. It suggested security vendors to customize their potential PC security items as per the needs of particular market segments rather than developing generic security tools.
Jon Oltsik, the report's author and a senior analyst at ESG, in a statement to eChannelLine published on March 15, 2007, said, "The PC security market is rapidly moving toward specialized products and market niches".
\"We are already seeing bundled products for small businesses and consumers and ESG\'s research indicates that this trend is just beginning. This will certainly change the fundamentals in this marketplace as it impacts the way these products are designed, priced, marketed, and sold".
Other findings of the study show far more firms declared they would probably change their PC security vendors than to stick to present associations when their security subscription expire. Over 75% of the enterprises are analyzing the Microsoft Forefront desktop security, planning to analyze it, or are ready to do so.
Oltsik counted two active market factors at play - increased competition, particularly from Microsoft and altering security needs and threats. An integrated pack of anti-spyware, firewall, and anti-virus is not adequate for a major part of the market but dissimilar sectors do need dissimilar protection.
According to the RNCOS report "IT Security Market Worldwide (2006-2007)", PC users are attracted to security products that provide a high level of protection against a rising number of sophisticated and targeted attacks. The quantum of security product offerings has gone beyond the original boundaries of security applications from the anti-virus to innumerable others, including VPNs (Virtual Private Networks), AV (Anti-virus) applications, intrusion detection and prevention systems, UTM (Unified Threat Management), and email/spam gateways.
The market research report gives a comprehensive overview of global IT security market and dissects the potential of various newly developed security products (like SSL VPN and UTM) in detail with focus on their presence in different countries, and future prospects. A rational approach has been adopted to sketch out the driving forces, opportunities and challenges prevailing in the market.
