Press Release Summary = BlabberMouth PR is working with Austin Robot Technology (ART) to promote their development of an SUV that drives itself in preparation for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Urban Challenge.
Press Release Body = BlabberMouth PR, the only PR firm to offer its clients 100 percent representation by senior-level practitioners, today announced that Texas' autonomous vehicle robot team, Austin Robot Technology (ART), has selected BlabberMouth as its public relations agency of record. BlabberMouth will assist ART and its partner, The University of Texas at Austin, in promoting their development of an SUV that drives itself in preparation for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Urban Challenge.
The DARPA Urban Challenge will pit autonomous vehicles from around the globe against one another in a race through an artificial urban landscape. The Challenge is intended to accelerate research and development in autonomous ground vehicles that could help save lives on the battlefield. The winner will receive $2 million and opportunities to commercialize their research. The ART team made it to the semifinals in the 2005 DARPA Challenge.
This spring, UT-Austin included ART's autonomous vehicle in a unique course on artificial intelligence and computer science led by internationally renowned artificial intelligence expert Dr. Peter Stone. Dr. Stone and his students have been fine-tuning the vehicle during a course entitled "Autonomous Vehicles: Driving in Traffic." It is hoped that the software contributions made by Dr. Stone and his students will put them over the top in the 2007 contest.
"Blabbermouth PR provided us with a technologically savvy, senior-level public relations strategist to work with our team, as a member of our team," said Dave Tuttle, ART team leader and program manager. "Despite the steep learning curve, our technologies' relevance and value were quickly understood."
"We are excited to be a small part of this landmark effort," said Patti D. Hill, CEO and Founder of BlabberMouth. "The technology being developed by ART and Dr. Stone's students could eventually lead to creation of cars that drive themselves for the elderly or the blind, as well as unmanned vehicles for the battlefield to keep troops out of harm's way. This is very important work of which we are proud to be involved."
