Press Release Body = Research by Abbey Mortgages has revealed Britons take more time to choose their holiday destinations than they do on assessing the viability of prospective new places to live - with an average of 139 minutes spent on perusing holiday brochures for the annual vacation and just 96 minutes on assessing a property before committing to purchase.
As a result, 49 per cent of homebuyers encounter difficulties soon after moving in.
\"It really is crucial that homebuyers do as much research as possible before making an offer on a new property,\" commented Nici Audhlam-Gardiner, head of mortgages at Abbey.
\"Moving is stressful enough, without having to worry about nasty surprises when you arrive at your new home.\"
The survey found 21 per cent are left needing to redecorate due to the shoddy workmanship of previous owners, while seven per cent discovered their showers to be inadequate due to a lack of water pressure.
Those struggling to finance renovations following a move could consider selling their home to National Homebuyers. Director of the quick sale property firm, Julian King, says: \"It\'s surprising how many people believe that making alterations in their own image will increase the value of their property.
\"Homeowners must understand that painting over wallpaper or replacing kitchen units does very little to the value of each property. The local market conditions dictate the profit - if any - on the re-sale of your property.\"
