Hall of fame jockey filed a lawsuit against Ambulance Company for alleged inadequate
treatment

Laffit Pincay Jr., retired Hall of Fame jockey, was awarded $2.7 million by the jury
of Los Angeles County Superior Court in Pasadena on May 7, 2007, Monday. The amount
noted is Pincay's compensation for damages he incurred during a riding accident in
Santa Anita Park last March 1, 2003, which caused the end of his career.

According to Neil Papiano, Pincay's lawyer, the multimillion-dollar award given by
the jury \"was a very fair result.\" Papiano added that Pincay deserve the reward
since he was injured due to the negligence of other people whom he depended on to
save his life. It is unfortunate that they did not carry out their duties and have
to pay for it.

Los Angeles, California, May 14, 2007 - Pincay, who is 60 years old, suffered from
two broken bones in his neck. He also sustained a spinal injury. This is the result
of being thrown off from his horse on the downhill turf course of the Arcadia
racetrack.]

Pincay's horse, Trampus Too, has clipped heels with another horse while the race is
on going. This caused Pincay to be thrown over the horse's head. Afterwards, the
horse went down along with Pincay and it rolled on top of him on the turf.

After the accident, the Huntington Ambulance Service, an Orange County firm not
associated with Huntington Hospital, took over Pincay. However, as Papiano have
argued in the lawsuit, they mistreated Pincay because, instead of taking him to the
local hospital to be treated immediately, they just performed first aid treatments
to him right at the track.

Furthermore, according to Papiano, Pincay would have been able to ride again if the
said ambulance company did not neglect Pincay.

However, the Huntington Ambulance Service strongly disagreed with Papiano's
arguments claiming that they did not commit any medical mistakes or negligence.

According to Stacy O'Bryan, a part owner of Huntington, Papiano made them look
incompetent. He stated further that they are not liable for the spill that caused
Pincay to fracture his neck. Moreover, they did not do anything to cause any more
injuries.

It was the first time the Huntington Ambulance Service has been sued after having
served in Santa Anita Park for 39 years.

Around the time of his injuries, Pincay dominated the racing scene, having a
9,530-victory career, which is a world record during his time. When Pincay
officially resigned on April 29, 2003, due to his disability, he had more than $237
million in purse earnings.

Papiano exclaimed during the arguments that Pincay had hoped to compile 12,000 wins,
but was not realized because of the accident that ended his already legendary
career.
