The chief executive of Borough council has written to traders in the town to pay cash for the CCTV surveillance network and has warned that many crimes will go unpunished if they are not able to rake enough funds to protect the town from anti-social elements.
Instructions have been passed on to the Home Office and Police to dole out money in a bid to make certain that every nook and corner of the town is monitored closely at all hours. This will prove highly instrumental in bringing to notice any form of crime occurring in whichever part of the town. A detailed report has been formed for the Borough councils overview committee who will sanction the towns CCTV network.
Other highlights of this plan include 24 hour surveillance and monitoring by paid staff and volunteers. To bring such a plan to action the committee is falling short of funds, and hence they felt a need to involve all the businessmen in the locality since such a protection would prove highly beneficial to them. Extra cash would be obtained from tickets in car parks, so that there is no short coming or dearth of funds for the project.
The Borough council receives about 40,000 annually from Shropshire County Council for second homes income which will also be utilized for the CCTV. This is cash raised through council tax on peoples second homes. The report also mentions that the chief executive will also be writing to businesses mentioning the potential for reduced CCTV cover and a reduction in the ability to respond to alarming situations without any financial support from the business community. He will also be writing to the Home Office and police requesting them to consider making a contribution to the service.
