Press Release Body = NEW BRITAIN, CT (May 21, 2007) - VRSim, Inc. has announced the release of the SimWelder SMAW (Shielded Metal Arc Welding) Module. SimWelder (www.simwelder.com) is a cost effective, stand-alone appliance that helps train better welders faster. By giving students more weld passes and giving instructors objective feedback, SimWelder augments traditional welding training.
Using SimWelder, students enter an interactive virtual environment that merges computer-generated data with physical props. By simulating the welding process, no metal is consumed, and no waste is created. Students get more passes, instructors get better data, and companies save money.
The SMAW Module follows the release of the GMAW (Gas Metal Arc Welding) Module and is the second welding module in the series for SimWelder. This module simulates the SMAW welding process, from properly setting up the equipment to welding with a stick, realistic sound and slag included.
The SMAW Module includes a SMAW device with retracting rod that mimics the burn off of the stick. "The stick device adds a critical third dimension for the trainee," noted Matthew Wallace, President and CEO. "Not only must a welder get travel speed and angles correct, now he or she has to compensate for the burn off rate of the stick." This proprietary technology was developed from the bottom up by VRSim.
The SMAW Module is being used at the U.S. Army Ordnance Mechanical Maintenance School at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland. The SimWelder SMAW Module version has been featured at Edison Welding Institute's (EWI\'s) 2007 Technology Conference (Materials Joining: Building for the Manufacturing Future) and received a great response.
The SMAW Module can be purchased as a stand-alone unit or in combination with the GMAW Module.
