Sketch Comedy Group Suspicious Clowns Debuts Tenth Show in Five Years
Released on: October 6, 2007, 6:45 pm
Press Release Author: Vincent Truman, Director
Industry: Entertainment
Press Release Summary: One of the midwest\'s most controversial and productive theater ensembles creates its darkest and funniest opus for the stage.
Press Release Body: Chicago, IL - After the resounding success of last summer's "Suspicious Clowns 9", the sketch comedy troupe returns to Live Bait Theater with "Suspicious Clowns X", its tenth original production in five years.
Capitalizing on its unique take on different styles of comedy and blending of seemingly disparate themes into larger story arcs, Suspicious Clowns' new production is teeming with innovation and laughter. A jumper on the side of a building is confronted by a non-English-speaking negotiator who chews ham. A wrestling match of local favorites becomes more intimate than the commentators are prepared for. Also, in the group's potentially darkest and most honest scenes, a group of friends and family grow weary of a terminal cancer victim's fifth year anniversary of surviving the disease.
"Almost any situation becomes absurd if you simplify and exaggerate certain elements," says group founder and director Vincent Truman. "Like cartooning, sketch comedy has the ability to tell an amusing story in a very short amount of time and, upon occasion, make people just a smidge uncomfortable. All good comedy blends laughs and intellect."
The show features Truman with Clown veterans Robert Felker, Jacen Kraynek and Jefrey Wilkerson. They are joined by new writer/performers Heather Mingo and Melissa Malan.
