Release Body: Love Without Boundary: Black Women And Dating Outside
the Box
Hosted by Black Women Who Date Interracially
Our positive and progressive panel discussion will explore the topics and issues
black women face while romantically involved or being married to a man outside
of her race.
“Outside of the new census information about the increasing numbers
of black female interracial marriages and its coverage in the press, this panel
is for black women to focus on their issues that matter to them.”
Says Nikki Doughty, founder of Black Women Who Date Interracially and
CEO of Multimixx–An Interracial Dating Events Company “It
is now 2007 and many black women still feel they have defend or feel guilty
about their choice of mate to the world.”
The panelist for this event encompasses a wide array of media specialists, bloggers,
authors, a comedian and interracial relationship activists.
They include:
Wendi
Muse - the Managing Editor of The Coup Magazine and a Special Correspondent
for Racialicious, a blog about the intersection of race and pop culture.
Jacquetta Szathmari – a New York based writer and comedian
and a finalist in National Geographic's Comedy of Travel Contest. Ms. Szathmari
appeared in the NYC Underground Comedy Festival and was a Project Breakout Finalist.
Ken Tanabe -The founder of Loving Day, a project that fights
prejudice through education, connects cultures, and builds a sense of community
among people who engage in meaningful intercultural relationships.
Erika J. Kendrick – Author of Confessions Of A Rookie
Cheerleader, Television Personality and President of the New York chapter of
the National Association of Black Female Executives in Music and Entertainment.
Maureen Tokeson-Martin – Media Consultant and Author
of "How To Pray A Mate Into Your Life", Her company is set to launch
a lifestyle radio program, on October 1st, "The Lux Life Reports"
which will air on Sirus/XM radio.
Sam Cacas – Writer, author of BlAsian Exchanges, a novel,
Activist and co-moderator of the Yahoo! Discussion group PowerCouples_AMBW (Asian
men, Black women).
The panelists were selected for the back grounds as well as their also deep convictions toward interracial relationships. "Zora Neale Hurston once wrote that one of the lessons one must learn is 'to live life for one's self.' As we continue to integrate with each other in this country, it is important that all as aspects of the interracial relationship community be appreciated including BlAsian relationships," said Sam Cacas, author of "BlAsian Exchanges, a novel".
Author, media personality and President of the New York chapter of the National Association of Black Female Executives in Music and Entertainment Erika J. Kendrick weighs in "If we are lucky enough to find true love on our journey through life, then it is our responsibility to nurture and sustain it; for love, as with life, is not promised us. The pigment of the packaging of the greatest gift that we can ever receive is no longer a deterrent for many of us, but it is only through adept acceptance and comprehensive understanding that we are able to broaden our perspectives, expand our parameters, and open our minds and hearts to a colorblind reception. After all, LOVE is waiting; you shouldn't be!"
The panel will be held on Saturday November 3rd (Saturday) from 1 to 4pm at Ripley Grier Studios, 520 Eighth Avenue. The cost for attending is $20.
