Press Release Summary: Tenacity of 3 young writer/producers makes Toronto Fringe hit a runaway commercial success
Press Release Body: In November 2006, three recent graduates of Canada\'s theatre training capital, Sheridan College, set a plan in motion. Wishing to see a return to the hey-day of Toronto commercial theatre, they put together a script, a score, and a business plan.
Development and planning began full tilt in January, with bi-weekly focus group sessions attended by Toronto\'s business community. Daniel Falk, Rachel Brittain, and Daniel Abrahamson, the newly formed Good Company Entertainment Ltd, had decided to learn about business the Broadway way; put on a show. Early in development, their production would form a strategic alliance with Scriptlab, and be chosen to appear in the 2007 Toronto Fringe Festival.
The development with Scriptlab continued into May, when the show began rehearsals for the Fringe. The young producing teamed wrangled together a very talented cast; J. Sean Elliott, Alison Woolridge (Mamma Mia, Toronto) Chris Trussell, and up and comers Trevor Campbell and Lana Carillo. Upon its debut in the Robert Gill Theatre the show received rave reviews from local critics. Richard Ouzounian called Abrahamson \"the brightest songwriting talent on the Toronto stage in a long time,\" and the show received 5 Star ratings from both Now and Eye Magazine. The show soon had sold-out performances and was awarded the Fringe Patron\'s Pick as well as NOW Magazine\'s Critic\'s Pick. Two weeks later, Funny Business - The Musical would be featured in the \"Best of Fringe\" series at the Diesel Playhouse.
The team saw the feedback and struck hard shortly after the Fringe. Raising over seventy five thousand dollars in private equity from, they rented the Cabaret Theatre at the Diesel Playhouse and put on the show professionally on August 17th. Despite overwhelming odds due to the lack of significant advertising dollars and business experience, the show was attended by over five thousand people in it\'s run of over seventy performances. Funny Business - The Musical became, and continues to be, one of the best reviewed musicals in Toronto.
Due to popular demand, \"Funny Business - The Musical\" is back for the holidays. Starting December 5th, Funny Business - The Musical returns to the Diesel Playhouse, playing for exhausted shoppers and corporate Christmas parties alike. Advance ticket sales are available now, and numerous performance dates are already sold out. Only one year old, the show proved to be the feel-good hit of the Toronto theatre scene and has garnered interested in subsequent productions from all across Canada.
