Press Release Summary: So she set out to compose and record a collection of original piano lullabies that would provide a restful soundtrack for his nap and bedtime.
Press Release Body: San Clemente, CA - When pianist/composer Patrice Cosier found out that she was about to become a grandmother for the first time, she wanted to give her new grandchild a very special gift. So she set out to compose and record a collection of original piano lullabies that would provide a restful soundtrack for his nap and bedtime. Cosier made extra copies to give to friends - and when they woke up, they raved.
"I just wanted to create beautiful music that would be calming and soothing for my grandson", says Cosier, "It was gratifying to discover that not only did it put him to sleep, it had the same effect on older children and adults".
With a Master's degree in Music and over 20 years experience as an educator in music and performance, Cosier knew that creating pieces that really help prepare a child or adult for sleep isn't a simple task. She knew that recent scientific research revealed data showing that certain tempos and rhythmic patterns can actually assist the brain in entering a sleep state. She wanted to combine the most effective elements to ensure that the music be completely relaxing.
A study published in the Journal of Musical Therapy finds that subjects regularly exposed to background music with tempos between 50 and 78 beats per minute have significant improvement in sleep quality. On the other hand, other findings show that vocal lullabies sung by anyone other than a child's parent , (or someone very familiar) , actually keep kids awake. Hence instrumental compositions are more universal and effective in bringing about the desired sleep response. All this helped Cosier shape the project.
"Creating classical-style compositions that also incorporate the latest principals on pre-sleep brain activity was my goal", says Cosier, who found melodic inspiration in her favorite composers, Mozart, Chopin, Brahms, , and even folk tunes from her Irish heritage. "The universal appeal of the music has made the difference - it fits with everyone's taste - and the desire for better rest. "
Her well-rested friends tried to convince her that her sleepy little CD had commercial potential. She happened to mention it to her massage-therapist, who offered to put a few on out on her counter. When they sold out in a week, Cosier found herself in the music business.
Soon her CD, "Goodnight Lullabies", was picked up by selected specialty shops and bookstores on both coasts. "It sells well just about everywhere" Cosier says proudly, "it seems everyone wants to get a good night's sleep".
Cosier thinks that there are additional reasons the music works so well. "A parent who is relaxed will naturally be more able to coax a baby to sleep, particularly when they are listening to the music together- it's a chance for parent and child to share a few moments of peace and calm which is mutually beneficial".
The CD's soothing effect has also been sold to dentists, doctors, therapists and even lawyers who report that they often play the music in their offices to create a calm environment.
The CD is available on the Internet at Cosier's own "Goodnight Lullabies" website (www.goodnightlullabies.com). There you can listen to sample cuts from the 15 tracks. But Cosier doesn't want to rush you into making a purchase. She says you can sleep on it.
