Press Release Body: Englewood Cliffs NJ (January 29, 2008) - Dr. Steve Elias Director of The Centers for Vein Disease at Manhattan's Mount Sinai Medical Center and at Englewood Hospital and Medical Center in New Jersey is offering free vein screenings for the month of March in honor of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) Awareness Month. patients with visible veins such as bulging varicose veins, spider veins or those with a personal or family history of blood clots should attend\". He is also the Director of The Thrombosis/Anticoagulation Center at Englewood where they have an integrated team that identifies and treats those at risk or who have DVT.
DVT (Deep Venous Thrombosis) is a blood clot that can form in your legs and sometimes move to your lungs, where it could potentially be fatal. In fact, complications from DVT blood clots contribute to more deaths each year than AIDS and breast cancer combined. Dr Elias wants to make sure that the community is aware of the dangers of DVT by offering these free screenings.
DVT (Deep Venous Thrombosis) is a problem that is estimated to affect 300,000 people per year. Not everyone develops the life threatening complication of blood clots traveling from your leg veins to your heart or lungs (pulmonary embolus). Clots that remain in your leg vein can also cause long-term damage that affects the legs themselves over the course of your life such as; swelling, aching, throbbing, skin changes and ulcers at the ankles. It is important to not only diagnose the problem early, but to treat it early too. Prompt treatment prevents life threatening and leg threatening problems.
