Elementary School 101 for Parents: Wonder Years Radio Podcast
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
February 20, 2008 (East Fishkill, NY)-Christina Lemmey is a parent of two who thinks elementary school isn't all that elementary--especially for parents. In fact she believes there's much more to know beyond just what is being taught to your child in class. Understanding how your child learns in this environment, interacts with new peers, deals with social influences and fits within the whole education system is also important and can be overwhelming even for the most prepared and dedicated parent. That's why Christina created a resource for parents aptly called "Wonder Years Radio" (www.wonderyearsradio.com).
Wonder Years Radio is a weekly podcast for parents with kids in elementary school from kindergarten to grade 5. Host Christina Lemmey is a long time PTA member and school volunteer who shares her "insider" knowledge and discusses current issues with a variety of education experts on each weekly Wonder Years Radio podcast.
Since the program's launch last fall, Christina and her guests have discussed a wide range of topics including bullying prevention, the role of parent volunteers, Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and food allergy awareness.
Christina chose the podcast format for her show because of its easy accessibility for busy parents. The Wonder Years "podcast" is actually an audio program that can be accessed through the internet at www.wonderyearsradio.com. All that is needed is an internet connection and a computer with speakers. Parents can listen while they prepare dinner, during breakfast, on the weekend-whenever it is convenient.
"Our kids are welcomed to a whole other world in elementary school. How well they succeed in this environment depends on the support we can give them at home and in the school. Wonder Years Radio is there to help provide parents with information, insight and tips to make them feel more comfortable about becoming a part of their child's school experience and education process."
In January, Wonder Years Radio launched a special free 7-day e-course for parents called "Discovering Your Child's Learning Style." This free 7-day course includes a series of emails that are sent to parents on a daily basis. Each email contains information that explores the notion that kids learn in different and unique ways. Parents are provided with tips to help them discover their child's learning style so that they can be better advocates for the kind of support their child needs in school.
