The toss was won by the Hyderabad Heroes who elected to field first. SG Das and L Klusener opened strike for the Kolkata Tigers but Das had to leave the pitch early by losing his wicket to Kemp and finished on 9 runs. Klusner however stay put and managed to settle down really well for the team. Jhunjhunwala came on the other end and scored 24 runs before losing his wicket to Harris. McMillan and Adams could not stay for very long and scored 13 and 24 runs respectively. So it was Gavaskar who ended the innings. Klusner made 73 runs off 42 balls but all his effort was in vain as the team could not bowl very well.
Anirudh Singh and Maher came on to the field after the break for the Heroes. Singh could score 14 runs before he lost his wicket. It was contemplation then whether this shock would be taken well or not. However Maher was there to hold the strike and took responsibility that runs kept coming continuously. Boje and Rayadu disappointed the team very much as they could not even score a single for the team. It was then Kemp who maintained the run rate and supported Maher well. He went onto bring the so required stability and scored 28 runs for the team. Razzaq scored just 4 runs and Harris again could not score at all. The cloud of speculation never left the game and it was only after Binny took the strike that players could breathe easy. Binny and Maher were the real heroes in the match and they scored 44 and 65 runs that took the team to victory.
