Vertically integrated Chinese manufacturer USB Source is preparing to launch its latest B2B business in North American this coming May 1st. Based in Shenzen China, USB Source whose manufacturing facility builds flash drives, digital picture frames, MP3's and MP4's is leveraging its recent successful European promotional products experience into a full scale assault on the North American B2B promotional logo products industry.
"The USB Source business model has proven an effective one" Peter Thomas, North American Managing Director for USB Source explains. " Over the past 6 years we have set up several B2B ventures in both Europe and North America in a variety of fields. What we learned early on was that the existing business models that were being applied for a factory direct business did not work. The first common strategy was to have the European or North American customer interface directly with the factory in China. This proved a difficult method for the consumer as business hours in China differed greatly from those in Europe and North America and secondly language and communication proved to be a major barrier. English is a very difficult language to translate into Mandarin with the result too often being that the order was not always executed exactly as the consumer needed. What USB Source has come up with is a successful hybrid of the two".
USB Source's business model is primarily consumer focused. The North American operation is staffed entirely with English speaking Americans; also on staff are 2 multi-lingual production managers. These managers are fluent in both Mandarin and English. As such the ability to place, trace, expedite and understand the nuances of an order is far greater than an operation whose management is either entirely Chinese or entirely English speaking. A further change to the traditional business paradigm is to have the production managers work from noon CST to 9 PM allowing a 3-hour overlap with Shenzen, thus allowing for real time conversations and problem solving between the North American operation and the factory.
USB Source has long been a manufacturer of OEM flash drives, digital picture frames, MP3's and MP4's to some of the best know brand names in the industry. It holds strategic alliances with component suppliers Samsung, Panasonic, Hynix, Intel and others. In 2006 it partnered with an established major European USB promotional logo supplier to work out the new B2B vision. The result was a 52% increase in business and 31% increase in profitability.
