Spanking is a disappearing punishment for children but it's not happening fast enough for some children or for many child advocates who see ending physical punishment of children as the next frontier in human rights in the 2lst century.
EPOCH-USA and the Center for Effective Discipline are trying to speed up ending physical punishment of children by sponsoring "SpankOut Day USA April 30th".
SpankOut Day USA was initiated by EPOCH-USA in l998 to bring attention to the need to end physical punishment of children and to promote effective, non-violent discipline alternatives. The observance is a public health campaign as well as an education initiative. Thousands of parents and caregivers have participated in SpankOut Day informational events where they learn alternatives to hitting children. Through the Center for Effective Discipline, 600 agencies and churches have received mini-grants to support SpankOut events in the last l0 years. The observance has spread to other countries where it is sometimes called "No Hitting Day".

What is EPOCH-USA?
EPOCH-USA seeks to end physical punishment of children through education and legal reform. Its advisory board is composed of internationally known experts in education, mental health, medicine, law and related academic fields. EPOCH-USA is a program of the Center for Effective Discipline. The Center is a non-profit organization which provides information to the public about the effects of corporal punishment of children and alternatives. It has been in existence since the mid-l980's.
