Press Release Summary: The Frost Art Museum and Cintas Foundation Announce the Finalists
Press Release Body: Miami, May 12, 2008 - The Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum at Florida International University and the Cintas Foundation today announced finalists for the coveted 2008 Brandon Fradd Fellowship in Music Composition. Armando Bayolo, Dafnis Prieto and Alfredo Triff were chosen from a field of 12 applicants.
The Cintas Foundation's board of directors will announce the winner during an Award Ceremony on May 20th at 7pm, located at the Marcy Building, 3852 North Miami Ave., in the Design District.
The award carries a $15,000 cash prize which is used by the winner to further his or her creative development. Brandon Fradd, managing director of Apollo Medical Partners, generously funded the endowment for the fellowship in music composition.
"Congratulations to the finalists, said Cintas Foundation president Hortensia E. Sampedro. "We had an exceptionally competitive field of applicants this year, and appreciate the skill this outstanding panel of judges brought to the task."
The 2008 jury for the Music Composition fellowship award included Fred Lerdahl, Professor of Musical Composition at Columbia University in New York; Eduardo Maturet, Chairman, Conductor and Music Director of the Miami Symphony Orchestra; and Ned Sublette, renowned Composer and Musician.
The Cintas Foundation Fellowship Program was established in 1963 with funds from the estate of the late Oscar B. Cintas, (1887 - 1957) a former Cuban ambassador to the United States and a prominent industrialist and patron of the arts.
Since 1963, the Cintas fellowships have been awarded to more than 300 artists. Past music fellows include Sergio Barroso, Mario Bauza (known as the father of AfroCuban jazz), José Bernardo, Aldo Rafael Forte, Julián Orbon, Tania León and Orlando Jacinto García.
