Tuck Panama Dr Chitrit an expert in the newest procedure to treat obesity called
"laparoscopic vertical sleeve gastrectomy" was asked in simplistic terms how the
procedure worked.

Dr Chitrit went onto explain that the procedure is a resection of the outer part of
the stomach leaving only 90 cc capacity (around 3 ounces) and also, losing the
sensation of hunger due to a decrease of the ghrelin, a hormone produced in the
stomach and associated with the feeling of hunger. The patients with sleeve
gastrectomy loses the same weight as a bypass procedure without all the risks of
having intestinal obstructions, intestinal leaks.

Dr Chitrit went on to say that many potential candidates may have contemplated "By
Pass" previously but may have decided against the procedure because of the risk
factor. Now this new procedure reduces the risk element while lowering the cost
factor as well.
