Press Release Summary: Dr K.M. Cherian has been elected as Congress President
Press Release Body: India, May 2008 : The World Congress conducted by the World Society of Cardio Thoracic Surgeons (WSCTS) is a time honored and highly prestigious international scientific event. This annual conference witnesses the august presence and didactic participation of the best minds in the exacting science of cardiothoracic surgery. It provides a worldwide forum for presentations and discussions on the latest findings and techniques in this delicate branch of surgery.
Every year the WSCTS Executive Committee proposes and puts to vote the country which would play host to the subsequent World Congress; this year India was in the final round for consideration and was neck to neck with Edinburgh. These 2 final contenders were released from the suspense when India and specifically, Chennai, was unanimously selected to host the 20th World Congress on Cardiothoracic Surgery in 2010. Chennai's Frontier Lifeline & the Dr K.M. Cherian Heart Foundation will be doing the honours and Dr K.M. Cherian has been elected as Congress President. This privilege comes in the wake of Dr Cherian having been singled out from India for the unique honour of having his name inscribed in stone during the recent World Congress earlier this month held on the Island of KOS, Greece. This honour which was bestowed upon 36 stalwarts in the field of Cardiothoracic Surgery from all over the world also involved the planting of a tree under each surgeon's plaque.
This year's World Congress was held on the Island of KOS which took on a special significance as the stalwarts of cardiothoracic surgery renewed their Hippocratic Oath in the birthplace of Hippocrates, the Father of Medicine.
36 world renowned surgeons were honoured in a special ceremony which memorialized their names in stone along with which a tree was planted under each surgeons' plaque. Dr. K.M. Cherian, CEO and Chairman of Frontier Lifeline, Chennai, is the only surgeon from India to have received this honour amidst
surgeons from USA, UK, Europe, Asia etc. This proud moment for India has been further compounded by the fact that India has been designated as the venue for the World Congress of the World Society of Cardiothoracic Surgeons for the year 2010. This privilege will witness India playing host to the luminaries of cardiothoracic surgery from all over the world along with students, clinicians and scientists active in this field. It will serve to highlight India's contributions to this field and provide an ideal and rare opportunity for enthusiastic students and young surgeons to meet and interact with pioneers and noted surgeons whom they would have only heard or read about.
Frontier Lifeline looks forward to elevating India as an active player in this highly specialized field and is privileged by this honor.
