(DEPERE, WI)-The electricity that travels on utility power lines is more dangerous
than you think. Improperly wired utility poles and poorly designed electric
distribution systems are polluting our homes, farms, schools, playgrounds and
offices on a daily basis-except in California dairy areas, which are outproducing
the rest of the US.

Unlike the rest of North America, California dairy areas do not allow their
electrical currents to flow through the earth when traveling back to utility
substations. This type of regulated electric distribution system, called a "Delta
System," keeps the utility wires from leaking and protects our farms and our health.


But unfortunately for Russ Allen, heir to the Allen Dairy Farm and author of the new
book Electrocution of America: Is Your Utility Company Out to Kill You?, the stray
electrical currents caused by the Wisconsin Public Service Corporation left his
dairy farm futile.

"For some reason, the people in power don't want to rectify the ongoing problem of
stray voltage," says Mr. Allen.

Studies have proven that utility wires leak up to eighty percent of electric current
incessantly. California dairy areas have acknowledged this problem, but the rest of
America has not.

"Thomas Edison warned us not to use the earth to return the electrical currents back
to the utility substation," says Mr. Allen, "and now we have a huge problem on our
hands."

Utility companies can prevent stray electric currents from leaking into our soil,
water and living spaces by:
. Stopping the use of the bottom wires on electrical poles to return the electricity
to the substation and as ground wires
. Rewiring the electrical distribution systems like we wire our homes. using a
separate wire for each function
. Using the Delta System
. Using one of the several safe systems that don't use the earth and our homes to
carry the electrical current back to the substation

The solution is simple, but the problem has yet to be dealt with.

"Utility companies are too cheap, and a fix could expose the damage they are
causing," says Mr. Allen. "In order for stray currents to vanish completely, we need
to group together and demand that the companies rewire their distribution systems."


Mr. Allen is one of the heirs to the Allen Dairy Farm outside of Green Bay,
Wisconsin, and a figurehead in the movement against the electrocution of animals. He
spent months in a heated court battle with the Wisconsin Public Service Corporation
and was awarded $2 million in damages.
