Press Release Body: Bay Ridge, NY-New York Consumers are thankful to Dryer Vent Wizard, a dryer vent service company who also provides free information to residents about fire safety and their clothes dryers. Dryer Vent Wizard, in cooperation with the National Fire Protection Association, provides free reports, brochures, a video and a free dryer vent safety check kit to consumers who visit their site. They are more than just another service contractor.
A representative of Dryer Vent Wizard recently spoke to a group of consumers, explaining how a clothes dryer works by forcing hot air through the turning drum to remove approximately one to one and half gallons of water from clothing. Lint is created as the water is removed and most of it is trapped by the dryer's filter; some is carried through the venting system with moist air. The accumulation of lint, both in the dryer and in the dryer vent, reduces airflow and creates a highly flammable fuel source.
He went on to explain that consumers should be sure to check the vent cover outside, where small birds and animals can get into the system to build nests or keep warm, causing a blockage, or creating fuel for a fire if the system becomes compromised and overheats. If the vent tube is bent or clogged, it does not exhaust to the outside properly and overheating occurs.
The DVW man provided a lot of tips to the people and explained the warning signs of improper venting of clothes dryers. He also pointed out that people need to make their neighbors aware of the dangers of dryer fires, especially if they live in apartment buildings, where clothes dryers might be on higher floors and have longer vents to take lint to the outside.
