Press Release Body: Pop Star Leona Lewis: London's Latest Gift to the U.S. by PhatGuru.com
There was The Beatle Invasion in the 60's, then decades later came the controversial but unique Amy Winehouse, and now we're presented with the lovely Leona Lewis. The 23-year-old, English singer, is said to be the next Mariah, Whitney, and even Celine. The London beauty is touching hearts and gathering crowds of fans, with her killer smile and winning voice.
Leona burst upon the public scene in The X-Factor, UK's version of American Idol. She was the winner of the third series, on December 16, 2006. Her passionate and flawless performances made her the judges', Simon Cowell, Sharon Osborne, and Louis Walsh, favorite. But as talented as she is, in the beginning rounds of the competition, she lacked confidence. She shares, "I'm always worried just before I get the judges comments because you never know what they're gonna say." It didn't take her long to disclose the true superstar that she is. After singing the classic, "Summertime", no one could deny her promising future (check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCOn4Gmj4T0).
The soulful songstress was awarded with a £1 million recording contract. But in February 2007, she signed a $9.7 million five album contract, in the US, with Clive Davis's, J Records. Clive Davis is famous for his golden touch-responsible for making stars of Whitney Houston and Kelly Clarkson. Leona has the first class ticket to her long lasting success. And it sounds like her voyage in stardom will be even smoother, after a press release on April 25, 2007, revealed that Simon Cowell and Clive Davis would partner up on the producer and song selection for Leona's debut album, Spirit (released in the US, on April 8th).
The young Leona proves to be a world record breaker champion. Her debut single, "A Moment Like This," was downloaded 50,000 times in 30 minutes. Her second single, "Bleeding Love" was the UK's biggest selling single in 2007. In March 2008, "Bleeding Love (check it out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sF84pIhP5UM&feature=related)" was released in the US. Leona is now the first British pop star to top the Billboard Hot 100, since Kim Wilde's "You Keep Me Hangin\' On," in 1987. These outstanding facts are just the beginning of her accomplishments. So clear the way! Diva coming through!
Tons are raving about Leona Lewis. She's admired and commended for her wide vocal range. Akon, Hip-Hop and R&B singer and producer, worked with Leona on "Forgive me (written and produced by Akon)," found on the US release of her debut album, Spirit. During an interview, Akon says, "I would definitely say she is one of the few artists in a long time I have worked with who has that kind of range." He goes on, "She's being presented to the United States, so that's a lot of pressure, but I don't think she's going to have any problems. She's really a real singer!" In February 2008, at Clive Davis's Annual Grammy party, in Los Angeles, Leona sang "Bleeding Love" and "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face." Her audience consisted of stars, such as Janet Jackson, Usher, Alicia Keys, and many others. There she met her "all-time" hero, Whitney Houston. It was reported, that during Leona's performance, Houston told a friend, "My God, she\'s a baby me!" Can't get a better compliment than that!
Leona's sweet nature and humility makes it hard to not love her. "I'm doing it for everyone, not just myself and my family, everyone, who has ever had a dream," she explains during an interview on The X-Factor. It wasn't an easy road to fame for Leona. She's been singing since a young girl, and has won numerous talent competitions. After leaving school, Leona took up waitressing and had several receptionist jobs, in order to get into a recording studio. She recorded several songs, including her own demo album, Twilight, but it was never released. All her hard work seemed to be in vein, so she decided to give up. But luckily, her boyfriend, Lou Al-Chamaa, urged her to try out for The X-Factor. Leona is grateful to have been given such a grand opportunity, and never fails in showing it. She doesn't only entertain, but also inspires. I'm sure many mothers, world-wide, wouldn't mind Leona Lewis being their daughters' role model.
We can't forget Leona's good looks. Being Afro-Caribbean and of Anglo-Welsh descent, gives her a distinct beauty, which sets her apart from many artists. She's the perfect package-she has the voice, the personality, and she's hot. She without a doubt has the potential to match or even surpass Mariah's or even Whitney's career. But will she equal Celine's longevity? I guess we'll have to stick around and watch.
London sent us a great treat. Leona Lewis has brought freshness and excitement to the music world. She's still rising, and there are no limits to where her gifts and talents can take her. The international star has a magnificent future ahead of her.
