This swimmer from Maryland won his third gold medal today, in the men's 200m freestyle event, setting a new world record (1:42.96). Yesterday, in the men's 4x100m freestyle relay competition, Phelps snatched the gold from the French in the last 100 meters, breaking the heart of the Europeans.
Phelps, who won a total of six medals in Athens (six gold and two bronze), has promised to go back to Maryland with eight gold medals in his jacket. To do this, he must win a gold medal in every single event he competes in. If he manages this, he would me making Olympic history.
