The boss of the world's best-known advertising agency made the comments in an interview with business TV producer yourBusinessChannel (http://www.yourbusinesschannel.com), which specialises in screening high quality business advice and tips from world experts.
"Prior to the internet, being small was awful because the big guys killed you. It's a level playing field now man. You can Google anything as fast as I can and you can move lightning fast whereas corporates can't," he says
"Small businesses tend not to move lightning fast because they are obsessed with safety, security and the risk reward equation right, because they make one misstep, which is what we just described, and they are like "oh my god, I've got no slack, I'm out of business".
Roberts, who has masterminded campaigns for some of the world's best-loved brands, says that today's internet marketing makes risk aversion a waste of time.
"With today's technology, today's micro marketing, with today's distribution you can try anything - fail fast, as long as you learn very fast from it. And you can fail cheap, right, you don't have to be big anymore."
And as for Robert's final advice for small business? "Get on with it. Because most small businesses talk and talk and talk"
