Press Release Body: ELLIPSE FITNESS is opening its first location in Oakville, MO with plans to open 30 more studios in the Greater St. Louis MO-IL area within the next 5 years. Headquartered in Appleton WI, the co-founders of the Ellipse System and owners of Ellipse Management Inc. are Lisa Welko and Shana Conradt, the first women owners of a national health club franchise.
Ellipse studios provide nutrition and weight loss programs, personal wellness and lifestyle coaching, and bootcamp, interval training, kickboxing and resistance classes only. Ellipse is truly a niche franchise and is the first of its kind in the fitness industry, in part due to its classes only concept which dramatically increases camaraderie and, in turn, member retention, a critical success factor in the industry.
Ellipse Fitness studios are much smaller than conventional gyms consisting mainly of one large room for daily scheduled classes. Start up and operational costs are greatly reduced since there are no weightlifting machines or cardio equipment. Members get much more attention than at a typical gym due to personal training, which we provide in a group atmosphere, this results in higher membership fees and a potentially more profitable business model.
Hundreds of women, as well as men, have lost weight, learned healthier eating habits, became stronger, and experienced health altering body fat composition changes. Member retention rate is greater than 80% because of Ellipse’s “people need people” mentality. An Ellipse staff member will even contact a member who has missed class more than 3-4 days in a row.
"In a world otherwise saturated with fitness concepts that don't work, this one works," said Eric Riess, a St. Louis lawyer who specializes in franchising and is helping Welko and Conradt market their business. "It's a little bit of personal training and a little bit of boot camp. They'll make you do the routine. And the reason people are willing to pay a little more is because they get something out of it. A lot of people have tried the $30-a-month clubs and found that they got nothing out of it."
Riess said the chain's "Victory over Violence" campaign to raise money for domestic-abuse shelters is indicative of owners "who really get ‘it’. They're socially conscious, and love and understand the fitness business.”
Ellipse Fitness is at a crossroads in its development in that it has successfully created and built a company owned operation in Appleton, WI which continues to thrive while having also taken that concept and successfully sold and developed franchises in central Wisconsin around Appleton. Ellipse is now prepared for a more aggressive wave of franchise growth by committing to expansion on a larger scale throughout the rest of Wisconsin and Missouri prior to launching broader expansion, later in 2009 and 2010, into the rest of the Midwest, U.S. and international markets.
