Press Release Summary: New York Fashion Week Presentation
Press Release Body: As The Big Apple kicks off New York fashion week, emerging fashion designer KahriAnne Kerr will showcase her Spring 2009 collection. KahriAnne will present her latest collection entitled “Baby Love”, a 60’s inspired theme of hip, funky, rocker chic women’s contemporary clothing.
The Iowa born and raised designer, who has been rockin’ the NYC indie fashion scene for 5 years, is known for her edgy style, exceptional craftsmanship, and artistic details. This season KahriAnne delves into her love of 60’s pop, rock, and motown music with a collection fit for the likes of iconic girl groups The Supremes and The Shangri-Las. KahriAnne pays homage to her parent’s insistence on playing only mid-1960’s music throughout her childhood, with this collection. From flowy silk chiffon dresses and tops to tailored jackets and skirts with exposed zipper details, this collection marks a sophisticated turn for Kahri. Pop colors fuschia, ultraviolet, and aqua brighten up the mostly black and light grey color palette.
KahriAnne’s Spring 2009 presentation will take place on Saturday, September 6th, 2008 from 8pm – 10pm at The Fred Astaire Dance Studio located at 303 E. 43rd Street, NYC. Please rsvp to kahri@kahri.com. Get Ready to Twist and Shout! Cupcakes, great music, dancing, and cute clothes collide! Spread the Love!
The collection is available for wholesale orders/editorial pulls at Showroom NY, 202 W 40th St., NYC. Contact Samantha Bhatty at 212.575.5040 or sbhatty@showroomnewyork.org. Kahri by KahriAnne Kerr is also available for sale at www.kahri.com.
From the Farm to the Big City Growing up on a farm outside of Tripoli, Iowa, where fashion is of little concern, KahriAnne Kerr broke the mold. She was tired of generic mall clothes, so KahriAnne started to make her own clothes. Having no previous fashion/sewing experience KahriAnne taught herself how to sew and design. It was in the spring of 2002 (KahriAnne’s freshman year at BYU-Idaho) that Kahri clothing was first showcased on the runway. KahriAnne presented her first women’s collection to great success. The fashion design department at BYU-Idaho named KahriAnne Kerr the “Best Fashion Designer” and the “Most Promising Designer” for 2001-2002.
Next, KahriAnne moved back to Iowa to set up her first mini store. Kreations by Kahri was born in the summer of 2002. KahriAnne sold her funky women’s clothing, artwork, and quilts in a 10’x10’ space in Waverly, IA.
Then KahriAnne moved to Ames, IA to attend Iowa State University, so the Kreations by Kahri store had to go. Luckily, Zushy, a local boutique, picked up Kahri and soon KahriAnne became a local celebrity, with her designs quickly selling out. KahriAnne also received recognition from the fashion department at Iowa State University. She received awards for her clothing at the Iowa State Fashion Showcase in Fall 2002. In spring 2003, KahriAnne entered two women’s collections in the Iowa State Annual Fashion Show, the only sophomore to do so. Both collections were accepted and displayed on the runway. KahriAnne headed out to the bright lights of NYC in August 2003 to attend the fashion design program at The Fashion Institute of Technology. Kahri then began to sell her collection in NYC stores.
Now Kahri is sold at over 20 boutiques across the US, the UK, and Israel, as well as 30 online boutiques. Kahri has also been featured in many fashion shows with celebrity hosts and performers, such as Kanye West, MTV’s Quddus, BET’s Melissa Ford, Keenyah Hill and Naima More from America’s Next Top Model and on TV programs, such as Fuse TV, 99% Fashion, and BPM TV, as well as many magazines, such as Interview, React, US Weekly, Rockpile, The Ave, Shut Up, Exactly, and more. Recording artists such as Fergie, Aubrey from Danity Kane, and Brandi Carlisle have also rocked Kahri gear on and off of their video shoots.
