Online parcel delivery specialist Parcel2Go has reaffirmed its view that companies in the UK should take measures to ensure their deliveries are not disrupted by industrial action.
Royal Mail released its annual report this week, which revealed a £120m loss for the year - equivalent to over £2m a week. Chief executive Moya Greene has said the business must change, and it is believed up to 43,000 jobs are at risk as mail centres across the country face closure. In response, union officials said that attempts to use employees as a political football would "inevitably lead to strike action".
Richard Mercer, Marketing director at Parcel2Go said individuals and businesses of all sizes should make sure they are prepared and have organised ways to get their packages and consignments delivered if industrial action does result.
He said: "The news last week that parliament has given the green light to laws that will allow Royal Mail to be sold in 2012, and the release of the company's end-of-year results has made the possibility of strike action even more real.
"Any business that regularly needs cheap international parcel delivery services should be thinking ahead and making preparations to
ensure deliveries are made whatever happens. We deal with millions of packages every
year and understand that each and every one is important in its own way. Securing
the services of a reliable courier firm such as DHL will allow
people to relax in the knowledge that their items will arrive safely and on time."
Advances in technology now mean that it is possible to monitor packages while they are in transit through parcel tracking systems. Parcel2Go offers this service through its website which means with the simple click of a button, individuals and businesses are able to track their consignments as they make their way around the globe.
