DirectRooms.com confirms that the Graiguenamanagh 8th Annual Town of Books Festival will take place from Friday 16th September until Sunday 18th September.

This annual festival transforms the town into a ‘Town of Books’ and there is a useful guide publishes for the tourist to track down the bookshops that will be open during this literate festival.

Kilkenny City is only 15 miles away from Graiguenamanagh, so for those literati who may wish to visit the BookTown Festival there are many cheap Kilkenny Hotels from which to choose. Currently, over 30 bookshops and stalls have signed up to exhibit their wares at the festival. In fact, as a result of past festivals, Graiguenamanagh has become a centre for the antiquarian book trade. Music, food and crafts will also be on display during the festival weekend.

Graiguenamanagh lies on the banks of the River Barrow and is an ancient town. In 2004, the town celebrated the 800-year anniversary of the founding of its Duiske Abbey, a Cistercian Abbey, now dissolved. Both the Blackstairs Mountains and Brandon Hill overlook the town, so there is plenty to occupy the visitor should they suffer from a surfeit of culture. As well as literature, Graiguenamanagh is also famous for hillwalking and hiking.

Any booksellers who still wish to register for a site during the festival should contact Brian Roberts who has warned that there is very heavy pressure on a limited amount of places.
