The Madrid Gastrofestival is expected to see thousands of food enthusiasts head in to the Spanish capital city of Madrid in January 2012. The event is likely to see heightened demand for a hotel in Madrid city centre around that time, says hotel room comparison specialist DirectRooms.com.

The Madrid Gastrofestival is a fortnight-long event which offers food fans all sorts of fun, where they can learn new cookery techniques and skills as well as trying some new foods! The event’s dedicated workshops and training sessions take place from January 24 to January 26 and many of Europe’s most famous chefs will be on show for attendees.

Among the star names taking part in this year’s Gastrofestival are Britain’s Heston Blumenthal and France’s Joel Robuchon, both of whose sessions are expected to be well-attended. The festival will promote the latest in Spanish cuisine while other niche styles of cookery will be on show.

Venues used by the Madrid Gastrofestival include many of the city’s best-known restaurants and cafes, meaning attendees get to explore Madrid while indulging in their passion. Some of the tasting classes are even held in Michelin-starred restaurants where attendees can even get discount vouchers.

Lek Boonlert, marketing head of DirectRooms.com, comments, “The Spanish certainly love their food and gastronomes from all over Europe will be heading into town to enjoy this fun event. With so many people arriving in Madrid and wanting hotel rooms, the key to getting a good deal on the hotel you want is advance booking."
