August 08, 2012, 7:55 am -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- On 2 September roads in central London will be closed to motorised traffic as more than 50,000 cyclists take to their bikes to enjoy London on two wheels. Raising awareness for cycling in the capital the Mayor of London's Skyride, now in its fourth year, has a festival feel with music, performers and workshops rounding off the day.
The 15km route takes in the Victorian Embankment where cyclists can see Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament as well as the London Eye on the other side of the Thames. Cycling round the City of London cyclists will also pass St. Paul 's and the Tower of London.
A host of celebrities and Olympic cycling stars will be participating in the Mayor of London's Skyride, so participants should keep their eyes peeled for the country's sporting heroes and heroines.
Kicking off in Victoria Park from 11am the park will be packed with family-focused entertainment all day and roads don't reopen to traffic until 4pm.
Instead of trying to make it out of the capital with bikes in tow along with several thousand other participants, LondonTown advises families to utilise its exclusive London hotel discounts and book an overnight stay in the capital.
LondonTown has a range of London hotels on offer with discounts close to 90%. A good example is the Holiday Inn Express London-Stratford near to the new Olympic Park – a truly stellar location. This three-star hotel is available from £52 per room, per night. However, due to its proximity to the Olympic Park and the fact the Paralympic Games will be running simultaneously prices may vary and LondonTown advises Mayor of London's Skyride participants to book early to get the best rates.
Another option, also from budget hotelier Holiday Inn, is the Holiday Inn Express London Limehouse. Rooms at this three-star property close to the Thames start at just £50 per night. Families may enjoy cycling to this hotel from Victoria Park along Regent's Canal, a car-free waterside route through the heart of London.
