October 01, 2012, 1:12 pm -- /EPR NETWORK/ -- This October presents a real landmark in the life of one of London's most praised and traditional galleries. From 31st October – 20th January 2013, the National Gallery will present a photography exhibition for the first time ever.
The central London gallery, most renowned for its collections of Old Masters and Renaissance portraits and landscapes, is exploring the art of photography as a way of communicating, reflecting on and developing the fine art practices and painting techniques exemplified in its permanent collections.
Seduced by Art is one of the autumn's most interesting prospects from the major galleries, marking a departure in many ways from the traditional re-order or re-contextualising of the same classics.
This exhibition takes ‘photography past and present' as its focus, and will place contemporary and early experiments in photography side by side with Old masters paintings, exploring the shared interests between the mediums, and time periods, involved.
Work from photographers such as Martin Parr, Craigie Horsfield and Sam Taylor-Wood will be displayed, in groupings of particular topics, such as nudes, landscapes, and portraits.
There will also be three ‘interventions' of contemporary photography in the collection, with work by Richard Billingham, Craigie Horsfield and Richard Learoyd alongside 19th -century work from Constable, Degas and Ingres.
LondonTown.com, the internet's number one internet site, is encouraging visitors to book early for the exhibition and for the website's selection of luxury cheap hotels in London.
