April 25, 2005 --Are you a baseball player between the ages of 10
and 19? If you are, you can learn to play baseball the professional
way from George Foster, the great Cincinnati Reds MVP, Home Run
and RBI champion at the George Foster Baseball Training Academy
from June 26 thru July 2, 2005.
George Foster, brings his 18 years of major league baseball experience,
together with a core staff of former professional and college baseball
players and coaches, to teach fundamental and advanced baseball
skills and techniques, the professional way. The George Foster Baseball
Training Academy, which focuses on developing the skills of young
ballplayers, will be held for one week at Cal State University,
Dominguez Hills in Carson, California. Through George Foster’s
full time participation and under his direction, all the instructors
will pass on to Academy students,
professional baseball fundamentals and advanced baseball skill techniques.
In addition, participants will be instilled with the values of hard
work, persistence,
preparation, and teamwork. These are values that will last a lifetime.
George Foster played in the major leagues for eighteen years, eleven
with the Cincinnati Reds from 1971-1981. He made a name for himself
as a powerful, productive hitter who had five of the best seasons
of any player of his time including three
consecutive RBI championships from 1976 to 1978, tying a major league
record. In 1977, he was named the National League’s MVP when
he batted .320 and led the league with 52 home runs,149 RBI’s,
124 runs scored, and a .631 slugging percentage.
George became
only the seventh National League player to hit 50 or more home runs
in one season. In 1978, he again led the National League with 40
home runs and 120 RBI’s.
During his eleven
years with Cincinnati, George helped lead the “Big Red Machine”
into four Championship Series and three World Series. In addition
to his 1977 MVP selection, he was a five-time National League All-Star
and was named MVP of the 1976 All-Star Game. In 2003, George was
inducted in the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame.
The baseball
philosophy that is stressed at George Foster’s Baseball Training
Academy is to focus on the importance of “team chemistry”
which is formed initially at the ballpark and on the field through
the player’s experience of success and failure. Chemistry
is a necessary part of winning, but not the largest
Foster Cont. part. Talent is. “Winning instills confidence”,
he says “and provides a blueprint
for the future; losing teaches you how to cope and regroup. At the
Baseball Training Academy, we teach individuals to feel confident
by developing their fundamental and advanced hitting, fielding and
throwing skill techniques. The rest is up to you.
Good luck.” George Foster will be available for interviews.
