As the anniversary
of the World Trade Center disaster nears, people in the Lee’s
Summit area reach out to salute local heroes.

Summary = Honor our Heroes Event for firefighters, police, EMT's,
and military and their families in the Lee's Summit and Kansas City,
MO areas to recognize that they risk their lives every day to serve
and protect us. Free and open to the public.

Body = Churches from 15 area congregations are working together
to host the 3rd annual event in Lee’s Summit to recognize
the men and women who put their lives on the line every day to protect
and serve the public. Everyone is invited to the event. Area law
enforcement personnel, firefighters, EMT/trauma
professionals and members of the armed services and all of their
families have been invited as the guests of honor for the celebration.
In addition, community officials are expected to be on hand for
the salute to our true community heroes. The celebration, which
is free and open to the public, will have food, fun, games and activities
for the entire family.
Organizing churches
of the event want to say thank you to the heroes who put their lives
on the line every day, gather the community to do so, and to communicate
that Jesus Christ is the model for sacrifice.
On Thursday,
September 8th, there will be a citywide prayer service on the Celebrate
Sacrifice grounds at 1800 NE Independence Ave. The prayer service
will begin at 7:00 pm and continue until 8:30 pm. The purpose of
this prayer meeting is to pray in advance of the Celebrate Sacrifice
event. This cooperative effort of many churches in the community
who join together to honor the heroes of our community
that risk their lives to serve and protect us. Bring your umbrella

Live Music from
area bands and choirs will perform during the event. Fun for the
entire family includes a rock-climbing wall, AirZOOKA, team challenge
obstacle course, bounce castle, children’s amazing maze, a
battleBOT Arena, moonwalk and more. Kids will have fun with face
painting and other activities.
Entertainment
and special performances include the United States Marine Color
Guard, Interpretive dancers, Kansas City Chiefs Cheerleaders, KC
Wolf, Slugger, Dynamo the Dragon, area cheerleading groups, Clowns
and a Magician.
The popular
Hummer rides are back again this year. A Vietnam Vet’s group
will have a display that includes a Huey Helicopter. The event will
also include the LifeFlight Eagle Helicopter and an antique fire
truck.

Parking is available
at the event, including handicap parking. Due to road construction
anticipated during the event at Colbern Rd & Independence Ave.,
alternative parking lots are available with FREE Shuttle service
to the event. The public can park and ride to “Celebrate Sacrifice”
from the parking lots at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 501 NE Missouri
Rd, or at G.E.H.A., 310 NE Mulberry or
Meadow Lane Elementary School, 1421 Independence Ave.
Directions:
With road construction anticipated at Colbern Rd and Independence
Ave., these alternate routes are suggested:
From Wal-Mart at Tudor Rd and Independence Ave., go north on Independence,
then turn left at the Celebrate Sacrifice grounds at 1800 NE Independence
Ave. or from Waffle House at Douglas Road, go east on Missouri Road
(which is just south of I-470) and
turn right at the Celebrate Sacrifice grounds.

The Celebrate Sacrifice Event started in 2003. It has quickly grown
from involving three churches to TWELVE for the 3rd annual 2005
Festival. Abundant Life Baptist Church, Aldersgate United Methodist
Church, Cornerstone Church of Lee’s Summit, Deerbrook Covenant
Church, El Shaddai International Ministries, First Baptist Church
of Lee’s Summit, First Presbyterian Church of Lee’s
Summit, First Presbyterian Church of Paola, Grace Baptist Church,
Langsford Road Community Church, Lee’s Summit Community Church,
New Summit Presbyterian Church, Seed of Faith Church, Ward Parkway
Presbyterian Church, Woods Chapel United Methodist Church.
