Press Release
Body = As a prelude to two Route 66 books, coming out later this
year, this online information about the Mother Road is by far, more
extensive than most, and not only delves into Route 66, but also,
the history of the many towns that this
historic pavement passes through From vintage icons along the old
highway, including such places as the Cozy Dog Drive-In in Springfield,
Illinois; Wrink’s
Market and the Munger Moss Motel in Lebanon, Missouri; or the Snow
Cap Drive-In in Seligman, Arizona, this site continues to reach
deeper into history.
If you thought
that Route 66 was nothing more than an old weed-choked road dotted
with motels and diners from the 1940’s, you’ll find
that there is plenty more when driving this chunk of asphalt. From
Civil War sites in Missouri and Oklahoma, outlaws in Texas and New
Mexico, to the numerous gold mining camps of Arizona, the sights
along this old highway are incredible.
Legendary Route
66, part of Weiser’s extensive look at the west on www.LegendsOfAmerica.com
gives readers an in depth feel for this American classic.
From the buttery smell of popcorn at the drive-in theater to a greasy
burger at the local diner, Weiser takes you deeper into the cities
and towns they were famous for, all the way back to the Old West.
Towns like Holbrook Arizona, once said to have been “too tough
for women or churches;” Tucumcari New Mexico, once referred
to as “Six-Shooter Siding,” and Galena Kansas, the site
of much bloodshed during its coal
mining days.
As an added
bonus, you will also find interesting side trips, numerous lakes,
state and national parks, and historical sites -- pages and pages
of Americana that come to life, including a few surprises along
the way. For more information visit Legendary Route 66 at http://www.legendsofamerica.com/66-Mainpage.html
