Body = Over 3,800 people joined city officials, Police Chief Rob
Davis and San Jose/Silicon Valley NAACP President Rick Callender
Sunday, in opening the new home of the Church of Scientology Stevens
Creek of San Jose, on Lundy Avenue. The new 57,000 square-foot facility
boasts a large chapel, facilities to train more than 2,000 students
at a time and 41 rooms reserved for individual spiritual counseling,
as well as five small film theaters, administrative offices and
a sauna and exercise area for the Church’s Purification Rundown
(a special personalized regimen wherein toxins and impurities are
cleansed from the body as part of the religion’s spiritual
progression). Over 350 volunteers contributed over 100,000
hours to the building’s renovation project. At the ceremony
Vice Mayor Cindy Chavez presented a City of San Jose Proclamation
to the Church, designating August 28th – September 3rd “Church
of Scientology Week” and thanked the Church for its many community
contributions, including support of the Second Harvest Food Bank
and 14 years of helping keep San Jose beautiful through the Adopt-A-Highway
program. Chuck Reed, the area’s Councilman welcomed the Church’s
parishioners and praised their dedication to making a better future.
“This is a dream come true for us,” said Darlene Bright,
the Church’s Director of Public Affairs, “And this building
exemplifies exactly what we are here to do which is to help any
individual and our doors are open to everyone.” The building
features an extensive array of displays, videos and films on basic
Scientology principles, specially designed to answer questions about
Scientology. “People are interested in knowing about Scientology
and here they can easily see
what we are all about,” said Bright. “This Church and
these premises are very much for our community.” The Church
has served the greater San Jose area since 1968 and its name reflects
its original location on Stevens Creek Boulevard. The new Church
is located at 1865
Lundy Avenue, San Jose and open 9am to 9pm Monday through Friday,
and 9am to 7pm on weekends. Sunday service is at 11am. For more
