Body = Press Release -- Although avascular necrosis (AVN) affects
both men and women between 20 and 50 we know little about it. The
scariest fact about AVN is that pain is usually the last symptom.
Kyle Cummings
is 35 and is a victim of this little-known disease. He was healthy
until he was 30. In the last five years he has had open-heart surgery,
14 hospital admissions for steroid therapy, 12 hospital admissions
for a serious infections, five of them blood infections. He had
gained 100 pounds from the steroids and can do little else than
lay in a hospital bed.
Despite that
Kyle has had two hips replaced since March, 2005, and is taking
a chemotherapy drug for leg ulcers and goes to painful physical
therapy appointments at least twice a week made a commitment to
start a web site for people that feel as alone as he did..
Not too long
ago Kyle decided that if he could do nothing else he could reach
out to others with the same disease and warned healthy people of
the symptoms.
Kyle now has
a web sight called www.disabledinAmerica.com which has a bulletin
board for those that are disabled and their caretakers to say how
they feel.
One of Kyle's
favorite sayings is, "If you decided you were going nowhere,
you will get there." Kyle has been through medical procedures
far and above what any person should have to deal with. Turning
his horrible degenerative bone disease in to a will to help
others using only his small disability check is amazing. Kyle has
now been recognized by The ON/AVN Support Group Int’l Assoc.
He has also been asked to consider speaking.
