Press Release Body = Queens, New York - September 6, 2005 /Newswire/ -- When
sculptor Marcelo Gulielma and his benefactor, Bob Miller, entered the beloved Arts
and History building, the cat calls of scab, Benedict Arnold, right wing trash and
other unmentionable labels that could be heard across the street had no visible
affect on Miller; however, the sculptor seemed to be searching for the nearest exit.
Miller had commissioned Mr. Gulielma to do a bust of President Bush that he hopes to
present to the president later this month.
After making their way to center stage, Gulielma and Miller just stood there facing
the sixty or so people in attendance. This congregation was very typical of the
meetings I’ve attended in the past where Bob Miller spoke…equally divided among the
benevolent, belligerent and those with nothing else to do.
I’ve never witnessed or heard of an egg bringing an unruly crowd under control, but
that’s exactly what happened. Someone in the front row threw an egg at Miller,
hitting him square in the chest. He didn’t try to avoid being hit or take any action
after being hit; he just stood there. Within seconds, the egg thrower was the
recipient of the tension the audience had evidently brought with them. Then it
suddenly became eerily quiet. With absolute silence filling the air, Miller said,
“Since this bust cost me all my savings, if you have any more eggs, sir, I would
appreciate the loan of them.”
The rest of what Miller had planned to say would have to wait. Where there was once
anger, there was now joy. Miller turned to Mr. Gulielma and asked if he would like
to be excused. The man shook his head in the affirmative and left the stage. It was
then that I, and most everyone else, noticed that he had wet his pants.
Without another word, Miller walked over to the bust of Mr. Bush that was covered
with a beautiful maroon velvet blanket trimmed in gold. He pulled the covering off
and followed Mr. Gulielma off stage, velvet blanket in hand.
The bust was a perfect likeness of the president and had been carved out of Alabama
white marble.
It was 27½ x 19¾ x 10½ inches and bore the inscription “Caligula, the Saviour”.
