Press Release Body = Saturday 10th December 2005 will see the revival of the
1930s-1940s Jazz Party. The legendary Marquee Club, renowned for past performances
by Jimi Hendrix and The Rolling Stones to name but a few, will host the first ever
Bright Young Things event, one of the most inventive and exciting parties on the UK
social scene, featuring performances by Blue Harlem, The Sheena Davis Group and
Surprise Guests.
The Marquee Club, situated at No. 1 Leicester Square, in the heart of the West End,
has three levels all connected by both stairwells and elevators. The Swing Ballroom
will be situated on level 3. This 1930s inspired ballroom will host Blue Harlem, the
ultimate swing band, accompanied by renowned dance company, Swingland, who will be
bringing both professional dancers and friends, dressed for the occasion in classic
retro attire, to dance the night away to this fantastic band. Blue Harlem is a band
not to be missed; they’ve earned a reputation as on of the UK’s premier swing/jive
bands and count Michael Parkinson among their fans, who has said “Blue Harlem – the
group I’m currently raving about. It’s happy music – it makes you want to dance –
Highly recommended!”
The Midnight Jazz Bar will be situated on the top floor, level 5. With its décor
suitably arranged for those that prefer a more relaxing, Ronnie Scott’s style
atmosphere, the bar will offer guests as opportunity to experience “one of the
finest singers on the scene” (Jazz FM) Sheena Davis. Sheena, herself a regular
performer at Ronnie Scott’s, has been described as a “superb singer singing superb
songs” (BBC Radio 2) and has established herself as one of the most respected
vocalists the UK has to offer. Not only will Sheena’s beautiful vocals be lighting
up the sparkles in every guests eyes, the bar will also offer panoramic views of
Leicester Square to add to the magnificent ambience provided by some of the most
beautiful sounds around.
In between the live sets DJ’s will be spinning well-known jazz/funk tunes to keep
the party going.
The venue itself will be transformed, home to some remarkable and curious creations
offered by some of the best up and coming designers the UK has to offer – no head
will be able to be turned without being impressed by the attention to detail that
has been applied. And with the expanding Blueprint Project, one of the UK’s most
talked about performing arts companies, guests will be greeted with a mixture of
reality and fantasy as the boundaries of performance art and reality merge
throughout the evening. The dress code will be Black, White and Diamonds.
